Spain: Planas announces an associated aid for the traditional olive grove in the new CAP

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has announced that the National Strategic Plan for the application of the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (PAC) in Spain will include an associated aid for the traditional olive grove, which allows its concession directly to the farmer, reducing administrative burdens. The strategic plan document sent to Brussels initially included a sectoral program for traditional olive groves which, according to Planas, would be excessively complex for producers. For this reason "alternative formulas have been sought, and the associated aid linked to the traditional olive grove is the most suitable", in his opinion. Planas has insisted that the traditional olive grove needs specific support for its survival, since due to its particular conditions it has production costs much higher than the rest of the sector.
