Brazil: With the rainy market, potato prices soar in wholesale markets in the country

The week started with high rainfall in the producing regions of Southwest São Paulo (SP) and, mainly, in the south of Minas Gerais (MG). Thus, with the rainy weather, harvesting activities on the first two days of the week were completely unfeasible in both regions. In addition to these two squares, the occurrence of rains in the Triângulo Mineiro was also reported and, despite the precipitation volume being lower compared to the other regions, the harvests in this square were also difficult. Thus, in view of these factors, the offer - which was already low - decreased even more this week, which caused a significant increase in quotations in all wholesales accompanied by Hortifruti/Cepea. In São Paulo, potatoes were traded at an average of R$ 107.02/sc of 25 kg, an increase of 48.04% compared to last week. In Rio de Janeiro, sales were R$ 106.17/sc, 44.61% higher.
