Turkey has seen a productive year in onion production, with a total of 2.35 million tons produced in 2022, surpassing the average production of the previous years by 150,000 tons. The country's efficiency in meeting its domestic demand has been notable, with a production that covers 114.7% of its usage in the 2021/2022 marketing year. This efficient use of land and climate conditions to ensure a consistent supply is complemented by the fact that the first harvests for the new production season have already started in the southern regions, promising a higher yield compared to the previous year. The optimistic forecast anticipates an increase in the first-season onion production to 284 thousand tons, a figure that comfortably exceeds the needs of the Turkish population.
