Malaysia: Production costs averaged RM6.53 per kg for chicken, and 48 sen per egg in September

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 30): Malaysian farms on average incurred production costs of RM6.53 per kg for chicken and 48 sen per egg in September, according to a study by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). Without taking into consideration the profit margin at the farm level, the DOSM's study found that the average retail price for chicken was RM9.08 per kg in September, with RM1.30 per kg of margin at wholesale level and RM1.25 per kg of margin at retail level. For eggs, the average retail price would be 54 sen per egg without taking into account the margin at the farm level, while wholesalers took a margin of four sen per egg and retailers made two sen per egg. DOSM said chicken could be priced between RM6.86 and RM7.84 per kg to wholesalers, assuming margin at the farm level to be 5%-20%.
