In 2022, Colombian households saw a rise in pork consumption, with each person eating 13 kg, a 7.2% increase from the previous year. This surge in demand led to a record high in pork production, reaching 526 million tons, a 7.4% profit growth and 9% production growth over the past 12 years. The industry also saw a 6.6% increase in the number of pigs in authorized plants, totaling 5,536,335. Despite an inflation rate of 13.12%, pork was the most affordable animal protein, experiencing a price increase of only 14.4%, making it the most accessible source of quality protein for Colombian households.
