The Chairman of the Turkey Central Union of Sheep and Goat Breeders' Association, Nihat Çelik, has called on the National Dairy Council to establish reference prices for sheep and goat milk, suggesting a minimum of 12 liras for milk and 10 liras for goat milk. This recommendation was made on World Milk Day, May 21, to address the imbalance in pricing, particularly with a decrease in cow's milk production but an increase in sheep and goat milk production in 2021. The total milk production in 2021 was 23 million 200 thousand tons, with a slight decrease from the previous year, but there was a notable increase in sheep and goat milk production by 9.5 percent, reaching 1 million 766 thousand tons. Çelik emphasized the importance of pricing to maintain production and support milk producers.
