The Germplasm Bank of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) in Pará is preserving hundreds of peach palm trees (Bactris gasipaes Khunt.). Some plants have been found to produce quality and tasty table fruits, as confirmed by a recent sensory evaluation. The research is aiding in the domestication of the species and the development of future Embrapa cultivars for the table fruit market. The study also highlights the importance of flavor in the global acceptance of the fruits. The research can be downloaded for free from Embrapa's repository of technical-scientific works, Infoteca-e.
