Brazil: Rio Grande do Sul gains reinforcement in animal health diagnosis

The Ministry of Agriculture approved this week the expansion of the accreditation of the Center for Research in Animal Health (IPVDF) for diagnosing African Swine Fever (ASF) and Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRSS). The two diseases are of great importance for commercial swine farming and with the measure, the IPVDF starts to support the Mapa Swine Surveillance Plan. Before the extension, analyzes of Brucellosis, Classical Swine Fever, Disease and Aujezsky and scabies were already carried out. The Animal Sanitary Development and Defense Fund of Rio Grande do Sul paid for the entire laboratory accreditation process, such as Inmetro fees, equipment calibration and instrumentation verification. “Without the support of the Fund, we would not be able to carry out this process”, says the head of the IPVDF, Vilar Gewehr.
