In 2022, Scotland's fish and seafood exports, led by salmon, were valued at £1.04bn, marking a 2% increase from the previous year. Salmon accounted for 56% of these exports, with the EU, US, and China being the primary markets. Despite a 26% decrease in the volume of fish transported overseas due to global supply issues and increased domestic sales, the value of salmon exports rose to £705m, which is 41% of the UK's total fish and seafood exports. Scotland's food and drink exports, including salmon, reached £8.1bn, a 30.6% increase from the previous year. The Scottish Government credits this success to the quality, innovation, and skill within the industry, as well as its export plan, while Salmon Scotland highlights the industry's resilience and contribution to the economy amidst challenges.
