The article highlights the importance of achieving feed independence in Indonesia, especially in the context of the pandemic, to support livestock production, particularly ruminants. The Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health Ministry of Agriculture is advocating for the development of independent feed production businesses managed by communities, preferably using local ingredients. The government is supporting this initiative through the establishment of Poultry and Ruminant Food Processing Units, providing facilities and assistance to selected breeders. The article also features the Hurip Mekar group, which has received facilities to produce silage and has significantly increased its production capacity, with plans to sell the silage to other breeders. This initiative is expected to fulfill local food needs and stimulate economic activity in rural areas.
