EU: Sheep farming is committed to decarbonization

Dairy cattle and meat had their European programs Life Carbon Dairy (2013-2018) and Life Beef Carbon (2016-2020), which led to the development of the CAP2ER diagnostic tool by the Livestock Institute , then the recognition in 2018 of the Carbon Agri method for monitoring the reduction of GHG emissions under the Low Carbon Label (LBC). In 2021, 301 farms embarked on an LBC project aimed at reducing GHG emissions by 139,000 t, then, in 2022, 933 breeders and cereal farmers for a total of 559,000 tons, for a remuneration of around 30 euros for each ton avoided in the framework of the voluntary carbon offset mechanism. 1096 reference farms In 2020, the European Life Green Sheep program was launched involving five countries (France, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Romania) representing 47% of sheepmeat production and 63% of sheep's milk production.
