A total of 10,000 families in Valle del Chira, Piura, Peru, are set to benefit from the export of banana puree to the European market, with the first shipment of 2 tons sent to Germany on November 10. The project, which has been three years in the making and was supported by the Swiss Cooperation, aims to add value to bananas that do not meet international standards for fresh fruit. The National Banana Board plans to export 22 tons by the end of 2022, with four cooperatives initially involved in the export process.
