Over R$859.2 thousand in economic subsidy has been paid to babassu coconut breakers in Piauí, benefiting 440 workers, as reported by the National Supply Company (Conab). The subsidy, part of the Minimum Price Guarantee Policy for Sociobiodiversity Products (PGPM-Bio), has been paid since 2017 and has mainly benefited municipalities such as Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, Esperantina, Porto and Miguel Alves. The Sociobiodiversity Bulletin, a bimonthly publication by Conab, aims to support extractive workers by providing analysis of production, prices, and subsidy payments for products harvested in Brazilian biomes.
