PGPM-Bio has already benefited about 440 babassu coconut breakers in Piauí, Brazil

Currently, more than R$859.2 thousand have already been paid in economic subsidy to extractive workers in the state of Piauí, benefiting around 440 babassu coconut breakers. The information is contained in the Sociobiodiversity Bulletin, released by the National Supply Company (Conab) this Friday (29).According to the study, the only product that has ever received a subsidy from the Minimum Price Guarantee Policy for Sociobiodiversity Products (PGPM-Bio) in Piauí was the babassu almond. PGPM-Bio in the state began to gain strength in 2017, with the payment of almost R$45,000 under the policy. Since then, the amounts paid have increased and the policy has been consolidated. So far, ten municipalities in Piauí have already received subsidy payments for babassu almonds, especially Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, Esperantina, Porto and Miguel Alves.
