Sonora state is a leading agricultural exporter in Mexico, with exports valued at $4,480 million in 2020, accounting for 12% of the country's total agricultural exports. The United States and Canada were the primary recipients, receiving 73% of the state's total exports. The state is free from certain diseases affecting grapes and fruit flies, which has aided in the diversification of crops. The most exported products include table grapes, asparagus, watermelon, potato, chili, zucchini, squash, citrus, walnut, and wheat. Sonora holds the world's first place in pecan nut exports, third place in crystalline wheat and asparagus exports, and seventh place in zucchini and sardines exports, and is the national leader in the production of several vegetables, wheat, table grapes, and asparagus.
