In October 2022, South Africa emerged as the leading exporter of oranges to the European Union, exporting 132,455 tons out of a total import volume of 157,821 tons. The list of significant exporters also included Zimbabwe with 13,129 tons and Argentina with 5,686 tons. However, both South Africa and Zimbabwe experienced a decline in their orange exports compared to the same month the previous year, with South Africa's export volume down by 8.4% and Zimbabwe's down by 26.3%.
