The article reports on the global coffee production and consumption for the 2021-2022 coffee year, as per the International Coffee Organization's March 2022 Report. The total production is estimated at 167 million bags, with South America's production being 77.47 million bags, which makes up 46% of the global harvest. Brazil is the top producer in South America, contributing 76% of the region's production, followed by Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, and Ecuador. However, coffee exports from South America experienced a significant drop of 14.5% from October 2021 to February 2022, mainly due to a decrease in exports from Brazil and Colombia. Globally, coffee consumption is expected to increase by 3.3% to 170.3 million bags, with the consumption distribution across regions being Africa (7%), Asia & Oceania (24%), Mexico & Central America (3%), Europe (32%), North America (19%), and South America (16%).
