The Falkland Islands Government, along with the Falkland Islands Maritime Authority, is taking steps to improve compliance and enforce environmental and labor standards for foreign-flagged fishing vessels in the South Atlantic. Since 2022, several non-compliant vessels have been detained and issued improvement notices, leading to notable improvements in the 2023 fishing season. The government is also working with flag states, classification societies, and international organizations to further enhance these efforts. This proactive approach aims to ensure sustainable fishing, protect the environment, and uphold human rights at sea.
