The Citrus Management Committee (CGC) of Spain has successfully conducted an experimental shipment of 246 tons of oranges to India, following a cold treatment in transit that met Indian authorities' standards and passed all necessary inspections, including phytosanitary and quality controls. This marks a significant step towards opening the Indian citrus market for Spanish oranges, pending approval of a new quarantine plan, notification to the World Trade Organization, and publication of the new protocol. India, being the third-largest citrus producer globally with a huge domestic market, presents a substantial demographic potential for Spanish oranges despite the logistical challenges of exporting perishable products.
