The spring breeze brushes the vast fields, and farming is in full swing. Just after the spring equinox, the fields in Yanqing District, Beijing, have shed their chill and warmth is gradually increasing. Agricultural machinery is roaring and moving back and forth, and farmers are seizing the agricultural time, as the spring wheat planting work starts first, officially opening the curtain for the entire district's 2026 spring farming production, laying a solid foundation for stable grain production, increased income, and improved quality and efficiency in agriculture throughout the year. In the fields of Dongmenying Village, Zhangshanying Town, a busy scene greets you. The rotary tiller, fertilizer spreader, and seed drill take turns, working seamlessly together, completing a series of operations including fertilization, tillage, sowing, and covering soil, with 150 acres of "Jinqiang 11" spring wheat seeds precisely falling into the fertile soil, quietly starting a new growth cycle. "We did extensive market research in the early stages, combining the soil and climate conditions of our village, and finally selected the 'Jinqiang 11' strong gluten wheat variety," said Sun Tiehe, the Party branch secretary of Dongmenying Village, standing on the field edge and looking at the busy spring farming scene, full of anticipation. "This variety has strong adaptability, especially suitable for our local climate, not only with stable yield and outstanding resistance to diseases and pests, but also producing superior flour quality, which can be used to make various specialty noodles, with a very broad market prospect." It is reported that "Jinqiang 11" is an approved high-quality spring wheat variety, with excellent yield per mu and outstanding quality indicators, very suitable for planting in Yanqing area. As the earliest large-scale food crop to start spring planting in the entire district, the successful sowing of spring wheat has fired the "first shot" for the entire year's grain production. This year, the grain planting layout in our district is clear, and the agricultural schedule is tight, with a plan to sow about 165,000 acres of food crops. The sowing times of various crops are scientifically coordinated and orderly connected. Specifically, fresh corn will be sown from early April to early July; spring corn will be concentrated in sowing from early April to late May; millet and sweet potatoes will be sown and planted from May to June; and winter wheat will start sowing at the end of September. "We will continue to closely monitor the agricultural time, strengthen services, and comprehensively manage agricultural material guarantee, technical guidance, and field management, to fully promote the orderly development of spring farming production, strictly safeguard the food security bottom line, and help improve agricultural efficiency and increase farmers' income," said Guo Hongbing, deputy director of the district's agriculture and rural bureau. The district will use spring farming as an opportunity to consolidate the agricultural production foundation and promote high-quality agricultural development.
