Staghouwer: End of duck farming not on the agenda in the Netherlands

The Party for the Animals uses in parliamentary questions as one of the arguments for ending duck farming in the Netherlands, that more than 19 percent of all ducks are said to have been gassed since the first outbreak of this bird flu season on October 26. Minister Staghouwer cannot confirm this percentage. 'It is not possible to give a percentage because the number of ducks on the farms fluctuates due to, among other things, transport to slaughter', writes Staghouwer in answer to the questions. 'Comparing numbers at any point in time therefore does not provide an accurate picture of the percentage of animals killed by bird flu infection.' Meat ducks A total of 41 companies with meat ducks are active. Since October 2021, two companies have become infected in 2021 and eight in 2022.
