The Stavropol Region is known not only for its grain production but also for its potato farming. There are areas where the local potato yield is comparable to that of Belarus, a country famous for its “bulbashi” (potato growers). Traditional potato-growing hubs in the region include the stanitsas of Borgustanskaya and Suvorovskaya, the village of Vinsady, and the khutor of Novoborgustansky. This year, agricultural producers in the Predgorny District have increased their potato acreage by 20 percent. Most of the land allocated for potatoes is cultivated by family farms, which currently grow over 30 different potato varieties. The high quality and taste of the Stavropol potato have been recognized not only by local residents but also by other Russian regions, which readily purchase the product.
