The Italian fishing fleet will experience a fishing shutdown from 4 September to 4 October, in addition to an existing shutdown in the Adriatic. Fishing vessels will also have to take additional rest days based on their fishing area and the type of resource they catch. While fishing activities will be interrupted, Italian consumers can still find local seafood from small-scale fishing, dredging, and aquaculture. However, there are concerns about the new guidelines proposed by the Commissioner for Fisheries and the Environment, which include bans on trawling and restrictions on fishing areas, as well as issues with the sustainability of fish resources and the economic and social impacts on fishing companies and coastal communities.
