Spain: Sunflower seed production falls by 25% in Andalusia

Olimerca.- The sunflower campaign in Andalusia has come to an end and with it comes the balance of a sector that once again suffers from negative weather conditions, low prices and the consequent abandonment of conventional cultivation towards high oleic. Good proof of this is reflected in a production that, according to estimates by the agrarian organization Asaja Sevilla, this season may be around 250,000 tons of pipe, that is, 25% less than the previous season, when 335,000 tons were reached. One of the biggest problems that farmers are suffering is the lower yield of many plots that have even remained at 800 kg / ha, with a 21% reduction in rainfall this year; although the average in general has been located at 1,250Kg / ha and with fat yields below expectations.
