Syngenta announced the global launch of Virestina (metproxybicyclone) technology, a selective herbicide aimed at controlling resistant grasses in soybeans and cotton. Argentina granted the world's first commercial approval, the company reported. Syngenta plans to bring the innovation to Brazil, Australia, the United States, and Canada. The technology targets a growing problem in the field. Resistant weeds survive applications, remain in the crop, and compete with crops for nutrients, light, and water. They also act as a green bridge for pests, viruses, fungi, and bacteria. The impact includes productivity losses and a drop in the value of agricultural areas. According to Syngenta, herbicide resistance is already officially present in 75 countries and affects producers of more than 100 crops.
