Hungary has seen a rise in pork consumption, with per capita consumption reaching 30 kilograms per year, placing it in the second spot after poultry. The pig sector, despite facing challenges like a century-drought and increasing input prices, remains robust. The government is supporting the sector through special subsidies and increased animal welfare support. A promotional campaign, in collaboration with the National Association of Mangalica Breeders, will be run from February 6 to 21 to further boost pork consumption, with a focus on mangalica meat. Approximately 300 tons of this meat are sold domestically each year, with Spain being the primary buyer.
