Kuppam, became a reserved Assembly constituency for Scheduled Castes (SC) after bifurcation of the two big towns as part of the delimitation exercise carried out in 2008. A predominantly agrarian society, the Assembly segment is dotted with large tracts of mango and coconut groves. Due to close proximity to neighbouring Andhra Pradesh where private fruit pulp-making factories are located, farmers cultivate at least two crop seasons every year. “The region received adequate rains during the monsoon for the past few years which has helped improve groundwater level in the area.
