The European Commission will reinstate tariff quotas on sugar and egg imports from Ukraine starting July 2, 2024, due to the negative impact of cheap Ukrainian products on EU farmers. The Revised Trade Measures (ATM) cover seven agricultural products and are activated if import volumes surpass the average annual imports from July 2021 to December 2023. Oats were the first product affected on June 18, 2024. For eggs and sugar, the average import volumes are 23,188 tonnes and 262,652 tonnes respectively, and since these quotas have already been exceeded, additional imports will incur tariffs. New quotas will be set from January 1, 2025, to June 5, 2025. Ukraine's exports of eggs and sugar have surged in recent years, with significant exports to the EU, Middle East, Arabian Peninsula, West Africa, and other regions.
