A Taiwanese technical mission has successfully grown three varieties of Taiwanese watermelons in Bahrain, introducing 'Taiwanese pride' to the desert country. The project, launched in January 2020 by Taiwan's International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) in collaboration with the Bahrain government, aims to help Bahrain grow its own crops using advanced Taiwanese agricultural technology. The watermelons are cultivated in greenhouses using a vertical cultivation system and drip irrigation, allowing year-round planting and harvesting in 80 days. Despite the challenge of competing with imported watermelons, it is believed that Taiwanese watermelons, known for their sweetness and refreshing taste, have potential in Bahrain's high-end market.
