The FEPEX Lettuce Committee, consisting of representatives from the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers-Exporters of the Region of Murcia, Proexport, the Association of Fruit Producer Organizations and Vegetables of the province of Almería, Coexphal, and the Federation of Fruit and Horticultural Products Entrepreneurs of Alicante, has convened to discuss the 2023/2024 campaign's performance and future directions. The meeting highlighted a positive start, a challenging latter half due to price and availability fluctuations, and a notable 7.4% increase in lettuce exports in the first quarter of 2023, reaching 292,452 tons. Despite challenges, there has been a significant growth in export values by 11% to €920 million. Cecilio Peregrín, a key figure in the sector, has been elected as the new president of the FEPEX Lettuce Committee, demonstrating a strong commitment to the sector's growth and development. The focus now shifts to addressing specific issues within the sector to enhance production, marketing, and promotion, aiming to improve the competitiveness of Spanish lettuce in the global market.
