In 2022, the port of Tan-Tan in the Guelmim-Ouednoun region saw a significant increase in fishing activity, with a record 144,000 tons of marine products unloaded, up 17% from the previous year, valued at 907.95 million dirhams, a 14% increase from 2021. The report highlights a 48% surge in the value of industrial fish, such as sardines and mackerel, and a 25% increase in volume. Despite a decrease in the volume of fish in the wholesale market, its value increased by 3%. The value of mollusks and crustaceans also saw increases, totaling 17.86 million dirhams. The port's active fishing fleet included 665 units, comprising 264 boats, 227 coastal fishing boats, 64 line fishing boats, and 110 trawlers (sardines).
