The Government of Kazakhstan is considering a proposal to ban the export of live small ruminants due to financial challenges faced by farmers caused by high feed prices and the pandemic's impact on export markets. However, other public organizations in the sheep breeding industry have opposed the ban, citing that it could negatively affect farmers' financial condition. The Ministry of Agriculture has been instructed to implement a quota mechanism for the export of live cattle in the fall to balance production and sale of mutton. The number of small cattle in Kazakhstan has seen a significant increase this year.
