The European Commission has recently granted the Jászság summer truffle a protected geographical indication within the EU. This fungus, also known as Tuber aestivum, is native to the region around the Tarna and Zagyva valleys in Northern Hungary, where it grows naturally and is also cultivated. The truffle is renowned for its distinct aroma, reminiscent of boiled corn and freshly mowed grass, and its intense walnut taste. Its harvest season is from late May to late August. The region is known for its truffle museum, the annual truffle season-opening event, and the Knights of St. László Truffle Order. The Jászság summer truffle is highly valued and sold at premium prices both domestically and internationally.
