The National Program for Vegetable Seed Production in Egypt held an 'indicative field day' to introduce the new tomato hybrid '707' in partnership with the FAO. The event was attended by key figures in agricultural research and extension institutes. The total tomato cultivation area in Egypt is approximately 500,000 feddans, with greenhouse cultivation contributing to overlapping loops and average productivity of 15-18 tons per acre. The total tomato production in Egypt is estimated to be over 7.5 million tons, with cultivation in various governorates. This initiative is part of a larger project to promote local seeds and hybrids, aiming to strengthen the value chains of horticultural crops and enhance their economic return.
