The Association of Potato Growers of Moldova is expressing concerns over large farmers' plans to reduce potato sowing areas in favor of grain production, due to the impact of autumn drought and increased seed potato prices. However, the association anticipates a decrease in the area under potatoes in specialized farms, which may be balanced by increased cultivation in rural households. The total potato cultivation area is expected to remain around 17-19 thousand hectares, with a potential risk to the fruit and vegetable market due to decreased foreign trade resulting from the Ukraine war.
