Gyeongsangbuk-do accounts for 27% of the total pepper production in the country and is the largest production area, with Yeongyang County, in particular, having a cultivation area of 1,321 hectares and a production volume of 3,700 tons (nationwide: area - 26,430 hectares, production volume 68,074 tons; Gyeongbuk: area - 7,280 hectares, production volume 18,379 tons), making it a major agricultural city where 20% (1,807 households) of the county residents are engaged in pepper farming. However, peppers are highly susceptible to summer heat and require significant labor and management efforts.
