In the past five years, Georgia has seen a significant increase in imported carrots, particularly in August 2021 which recorded 2.3 times more imports than the average for the same period from 2014 to 2020. Turkey was the primary exporter, contributing over 90% of the imports. This surge was attributed to high local prices resulting from low supplies. The influx of Turkish carrots has led to a decrease in their wholesale price in Georgia, making them cheaper than locally grown carrots and potentially impacting Georgian growers in October. This reliance on imported carrots has grown while domestic production has declined and prices have fallen annually.
