The Bolivian government has temporarily increased import duties on several agricultural products and foodstuffs, including potatoes, tomatoes, onions, apples, strawberries, chicken meat, milk powder, and cocoa, using Supreme Decree 4522. The new tariffs range from 20% to 30%, up from previous rates between 5% and 15%. The tariffs will be in effect until the end of December for some products, while for others, they will expire earlier. The Eastern Chamber of Agriculture (CAO) has backed the move but has called for stronger measures against food smuggling to prevent illegal trade. The government is also looking at expanding the powers of interdiction against smuggling.
