Amasya, a city in Anatolia known for its apple production, has seen a significant increase in cherry production, ranking third in Turkey with an expected yield of 52 thousand tons this year. This is a significant rise from last year's production of 38 thousand tons. The city has distributed 62 thousand cherry saplings in the past two years and has obtained geographical indication for the '0900' cherry type, which is now marketed as the 'Amasya cherry'. Si Sixty percent of the cherries are exported to countries such as Iraq, Syria, Russia, and European nations. The quality of the cherries and the prices farmers receive are influenced by their knowledge and skills in cultivation.
