Ecuador: This year Iniap launched new varieties of cassava, rice, and oats; and by 2021 plans to work with cannabis

It is earlier and more productive, easy to harvest, as well as a lower percentage of damage by pests and diseases, it has a high content of dry matter (37%) and starch, serving for its quality of its fresh roots for direct consumption. These are the characteristics of a variety of Portoviejo 650 cassava, one of the three varieties of agricultural products launched by the National Institute for Agricultural Research (Iniap) so far in 2020. The others are a dual-purpose oat (Iniap-Fortaleza 2020) and two of rice (Iniap Elite and Iniap Impacto), mentioned Andrés Andrade, executive director of the Institute. In addition, this year 39 scientific articles and 17 technical publications have been disseminated, through which the main research advances in the three areas involved have been disseminated, in areas such as oats, rice, fruit trees, sweet potato, pitahaya, potato, corn, chocho, among others.
