The National Institute for Agricultural Research (Iniap) of Ecuador has introduced a new variety of cassava, Portoviejo 650, among three new agricultural products launched in 2020. The institute has also published 39 scientific articles and 17 technical publications, detailing research advancements in various crops. The majority of Iniap's funding comes from fiscal resources, with some support from external sources. The institute's research focuses on improving agricultural productivity and conserving natural resources, with an emphasis on developing improved crop varieties and optimizing agronomic practices. For 2021, Iniap plans to conduct research in areas such as biological controllers, animal feed organisms, and enriched bioles, as well as start new projects in agronomy and non-psychoactive cannabis management.
