Turkey's Minister of Agriculture, Yumakku, announced that the country is in the final stage of preparing a new Water Law, whose main goal is more efficient and sustainable management of the country's water resources. According to him, within the framework of the law, mandatory regulations will be introduced to end the so-called wasteful (traditional) irrigation and to transition to modern and pressurized irrigation systems throughout the country. The goal is a significant reduction in water consumption, especially in agriculture. The Minister emphasized that agricultural irrigation accounts for about 77–80 percent of total water consumption in Turkey, making reforms in this sector crucial.
