Adana, Turkey is a major producer of watermelons, accounting for 25% of the country's production and providing a significant contribution to the foreign currency earnings through exports to various countries including Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Iraq, UAE, North Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city, which has obtained a geographical indication registration certificate for its watermelons, has implemented a customs tax to prevent imports of watermelons from other countries. With an expected harvest of 650 thousand tons from 100 thousand decares of land, the Adana watermelons are known for their unique taste, smell, and color, and are protected by the Yüreğir Chamber of Agriculture to ensure their quality and authenticity.
