Sheep and Goat Pox, a disease eradicated in Spain since 1968, has been confirmed in two farms in Benamaurel, Granada, affecting 400 animals. The disease, confirmed by the Central Veterinary Laboratory of Algete, has also been detected in 11 other places in Andalusia. The Ministry of Agriculture has implemented control measures including slaughter of animals, disinfection, and movement restrictions. The disease, which affects only sheep and goats and cannot be transmitted to humans, was last seen in the EU in 2014. The Ministry is also reminding farmers to implement biosecurity measures and maintain surveillance systems.
