In the 2020/21 season, Ukraine saw a significant increase in onion exports, with over 34,100 tons worth $6.5 million, marking the largest volume in eight seasons but not a record. The majority of these exports were to the EU, particularly Romania, with some also going to the Middle East, CIS, and Asia. Malaysia emerged as a new significant importer, and for the first time, Ukraine also exported onions to Sub-Saharan Africa. Experts predict that onion prices are set to rise.
