Ukrainian lawmaker Mykhailo Radutsky has proposed a new tax on high sugar carbonated beverages to combat rising obesity and diabetes among children. The tax rate could reach up to 45%, similar to some European countries. The proposal is based on the idea that increasing the price of sweet drinks by 20% can lead consumers to opt for healthier options. The proposal will be discussed in the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Health, Medical Care and Health Insurance.
