Representatives from the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service are meeting with their Japanese counterparts from September 25-29 for technical discussions on plant health. National Potato Council CEO Kam Quarles will be in Japan to advocate for securing market access for all US fresh potatoes, which could result in an additional $150-$200 million in annual exports for the US potato industry. Currently, the US exports chipping potatoes to Japan, but the market for fresh potatoes, including table stock potatoes, remains untapped.
