The Ministry of Agriculture has reported a 3% increase in apple exports in January 2023, reaching a total of 68,839 tonnes. India emerged as the most valuable export market, followed by Egypt and Romania. The export value increased by 23% year on year, despite growers not benefiting from the higher prices due to high costs in storage, sorting, and packaging. The Persian Gulf countries, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, were first-time buyers, paying the highest prices per kilo. However, the cheapest apples were exported to Kazakhstan.
