The international Olive Oil Council (IOC) has reported a 3.4% increase in olive oil consumption among its member countries in the 2019/20 campaign, with European countries making up 1,519,000 tons (0.7% increase) and non-European countries contributing 685,000 tons (9.8% increase). Non-IOC member countries consumed approximately 1,030,000 tons. Albania and Morocco had the highest per capita consumption at 4.7 kg and 4.1 kg, respectively.
Table olive consumption has also risen, especially in major producing IOC member countries like Egypt, Algeria, and Turkey. The IOC predicts a slight 0.4% increase in total consumption for the 2020/21 campaign, reaching 3.06 million tons. The European Union's consumption per capita was 2.9 kg, while Syria, Chile, and Peru stood out in the non-IOC countries with higher consumption. Overall, the EU's consumption increased by 63.8% from 1990/91 to 2019/20, going from 346,500 tons to 567,500 tons.
