In April 2023, Indonesia experienced a significant decrease in palm oil exports, with a 19.2% drop from the previous month, totaling 2.1 million tons. This makes it the lowest export volume since February 2022, excluding the month of May 2022 due to an export ban. The first four months of 2023 saw a decrease in export volume compared to the same period in 2022, with a total of 8.9 million tons. This decline is attributed to a decrease in exports to key countries like China, India, and the US, and a drop in crude palm oil prices. Despite these challenges, domestic consumption remained relatively stable. The production of palm oil in Indonesia is expected to increase slightly for the 2022/23 season, although at a lower rate than the average of the past 5 years due to rain in planting areas.
