Bananas have a relatively short growing cycle and are grown in tropical locations. The consistent temperature and growing conditions in these locations allow bananas to be grown year round.
Characterized by bright yellow colour and sweet taste bananas are ideal for snacks and sports activities. They contain all 8 amino acids which cannot be produced by our bodies and are excellent source of fibre, potassium and vitamin c and B6.

Ginger, zingiber officinale is an erect, herbaceous perennial plant in the family zingiberaceae. grown for its edible rhizome (underground stem) which is widely used as a spice. The rhizome is brown with a corky outer layer and pale-yellow scented centre. They have a pale, thin skin that requires no peeling, its very tender, and has a milder flavour. It can be grated, chopped for use. Mature ginger root has a tough skin that must be peeled away to get to the fibrous flesh and is usually grated, chopped or ground for use. Ginger is commonly used to treat various types of “stomach problems” including motion sickness, morning sicknesses, colic, upset stomach, gas, diarrhoea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), nausea, nausea caused by cancer treatment, nausea caused by HIV/AIDS treatment, nausea and vomiting after surgery

Bird’s eye-Are thin fleshed with a deep fiery heat. Flavour varies from mild to sweet. Colour range from red to cream, yellow or orange. Used in Thai salads and noodles dishes.
Cayenne-Have long thin red pods that can grow as long as 20cm. They are fiery hot with a tangy flavour. Used in salsas and soups. Used to make dried ground cayenne pepper, a staple seasoning in cooking. Chilies are a good source of beta carotene and vitamin c. They may help relieve nasal congestion.

The plant tubers can be variable in shape and can be red, brown, white or purple in colour. Sweet potatoes have a fusiform shape, orange colour, thicker and hard rind. There are 2 types of sweet potatoes, those with dry flesh and those with gelatinous flesh. Sweet potatoes are a rich source of fibre as well as containing an array of vitamins and minerals including iron, calcium selenium and they are a good source of most of our B vitamins and vitamin C.
