President Mnangagwa's initiative to drill 35,000 solarised boreholes in Zimbabwe's villages is progressing, with a consignment of 1,000 already received from Dubai and more on the way. The Zimbabwe National Water Authority has already drilled 1,020 boreholes under the Presidential Rural Development Programme, which aims to improve living standards and align with the Second Republic's 2018 election manifesto on water and sanitation. The project, funded by Prevail International Group, will provide water for agricultural activities and domestic use, creating local jobs. The programme is supported by various agencies including ARDA, AMA, ZimTrade, the Tobacco Research Board, and the Department of Irrigation.
